My WhatsApp contact profile pics have disappeared. The contacts and chats there but not their pics

Photo app My mother has an 8. She is used to there being a bar of recent contacts when she has chosen a photo to share with someone. That is now missing. How can we get it back? Pic shows where the bar of recent contacts used to be. Thanks

WhatsApp is not an Apple Product. Contact the app developer here --> App Support
