How do I get my gift card balance?

If the card has been redeemed onto an account the card is used and has no value, any remaining value will be on that account : View your Apple ID balance - Apple Support
If the card hasn't been redeemed, and if it doesn't have its value written on it, the only way to know its value is to redeem (and therefore use/empty it) it onto an account
