Face ID won't scan

Help! I've become extremely spoiled with my Face ID and now it won't work. I've tried all the steps per apples article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208114 ... but nothing... I've reset and I've erased and restored. I've tried everything and the thing will not scan my face. It was working fine on Saturday and now it just stopped working. Any advice? I made an appointment already but would love to not have to go in to the store.
