IOS p12 Certificate import fails

When trying to import a *.p12 certificate file on to my iPhone 8+ the import cert popup does not appear I just get the option to save or open the file with other apps.

It seems the phone is not associating the PKCS#12 files correctly as a file to import. I cant find any mention anywhere online to change this association.
