I purchased an unlocked iPhone 7 Plus and when I put my metro pcs SIM card in it, it said “sim not supported, the SIM card I’m attempting to put in the phone is not supported by the carrier”

You did not purchase an unlocked iPhone.

Where did you buy it?

The only source for unlocked iPhones in the US is directly from Apple.
