I have a note with some sensitive information that I previously had locked with my fingerprint ID on my iPhone 7 Plus. Since upgrading to an iPhone Xr a couple of weeks ago I can't access this note, since there is no fingerprint id, there's face recognition. Notes app asks for a password I have no memory of. Any way to reset the password for an old note? Force open? Help.
I wish that I had a more helpful answer, but the blurb that I copied and pasted in my response above is from Apple’s support article. You have to enter the passcode the first time in order to begin to use Face ID or Touch ID.
No. Without the password, there is nothing that you can do to unlock the note.

After you lock a note, it's automatically protected with your password on all of your devices. If you want to use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock notes on your other devices, you must enter your password and then turn on Touch ID or Face ID on the device you're using.
Crud. I'd go back on my old phone but I already wiped it and gave it to my child. Any idea why it won't give me the option of Face ID? I used the touch id forever, really struggling to remember the password. Ugh. Thanks.
If you still have the old phone you can unlock them with touch. The notes will sync in icloud as unlocked to your new phone. Then reset your password on your new phone (will require Apple ID password). Then lock the notes with Face ID on your new phone.
