Locked out of iCloud - Apple requesting credit card details!

Hi there. Somehow I'm locked out of iCloud - perhaps I messed up my password - but when I try to request password reset it says it might take a few days and to speed the process up I need to enter my credit card details, which seems dodgy to me. Anyone been through this?
