Constant Crashing

Hi,

I am running version 1.01 and my projects keep crashing about 2-5 times a day when opening a file or saving a file!! Started to get really irritating.

I have re-installed, not updated, updated and the same happens all the time.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance ;o)

No, the update doesn't help. I have OSX v 10.4.4, 5 gig of RAM on a dual G5 2.5 mHz machine. It is a clicking, sputtering, unstable mess. Yes it has some great features and it has been stable during voice-over recording.
But as soon as I need to edit individual waveforms, or start layering background music, it starts crashing like it's a feature.

Update: I have continued to struggle with this problem and have noticed that the crashing goes away as soon as I have more than one project window open in ST. If you have only one project open and switch between waveform editor and the timeline, the crashing begins. Open up a few more files -- even empty ones, and you can switch between waveform and timeline without crashing.

I have sent this info to Apple. Hope it helps.

Hi Patrick,
I am not experienceing crashes with STP 1.0.3. I wonder if something is going on with your audio driver. One thing you could try is to uncheck the STP preference "Switch hardware sample rate to match Document". With this off, see if you still get the crashes. You could also try using the built-in audio interface to see if you still get crashes with that.

Out of curiosity, what audio interface are you using? Do you have drivers that are supported on the version of the O.S. that you are using? I see in your signature that you list 10.3.8 in one post and 10.4.4 in another post--which OS are you using? I'm running 10.4.4.

That's it. I made the tragic mistake of purchasing an M-Audio Firewire 410 audio interface. Although the hardware seems nice, their driver is complete garbage. Unstable, buggy, and it requires a complete system powerdown before unplugging or you void the warranty.

The driver causes numerous loud pops in the speakers and has been so bad that I eventually had to sell the device and replace it with a Mackie Onyx 400F.

The Mackie uses all core audio stuff and doesn't need all the little wierd bits of software that M-Audio's does. I found 4 different pieces of M-Audio driver software still running after running their uninstaller 3 times. After manually removing, everything seems to be more stable.

Word of warning to everyone: avoid any product requiring an M-Audio driver. They are a dangerous group of inept goofballs.

Hi, I had a similar problem were STP would crash every time opened samples in the waveform editor. A helpful member of this forum advised me to do the following; delete the following preference files -

<User Folder>/Library/Application Support/Soundtrack Pro/EffectsCache.plist
<User Folder>/Library/Application Support/Soundtrack Pro/Layouts/Default.moduleLayout
<User Folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundtrackpro.plist

I did this and it sorted it out. So simple yet saved me from a world of pain!

all the best
