usb-c in new car

Just got a new car- has regular USB port in front near 12V cigarette lighter and 2 USB-C ports in the center storage compartments. Can I charge my iphone XR in the USB-C outlets. Will it charge faster?

iPhone XR, iOS 12

  • Yes, you can charge. But you obviously need a Lightning to USB-C cable.
  • Possibly it will charge faster (f.ex. my iPhone 6 in my new MB); it depends on the current the outlet provides, USB-C > USB 2.

He is referring to the Apple power adapter and you would need a power inverter to plug it in or a new Silverado pickup truck (and tell me, why when the light comes on after plugging it in does it make that loud "thunk" noise? My lights don't). But back on topic you don't need that adapter in your car and can ignore it. But check with your dealer (or the manual for your car, or the internet) and see if your USB-C ports are high power.
