Upgrade

If you are talking about the iPhone Upgrade program you keep your iPhone until a new one is released then trade in your old one and get the new one. If you skipped an upgrade you can do so at any time past one year.

You may keep your phone for as long as you like, or until you buy a new phone. Apple does not give you a new phone, but provides OS updates from time to time.
