I have an old iPad Air that I bought in 2014.
I was under the impression that Apple will soon release a new OS for iPad and mine is not eligible for that new version.
In that light, I was wondering, does that mean:
1) After that my iPad will get bug fixes/security updates/something, for the old IOS.
2) My iPad will not get any updates.

You are correct. Your iPad will be at the end of the line for all updates including security updates. Apple build security updates into the iOS, so any updates that you can download until iPadOS is released, will be the last of your software updates.

I like your attitude. Even though I have an iPad Air 2 which can still updated, I plan on buying the iPad Air 3 in the fall.
