my new phone with icloud issue

i got a new phone yesterday and in my messages it said “Downloading Messages from iCloud”, but none of the messages from after the backup properly came back and i cannot see if anyone messaged me while I was getting the new phone. how can i get back those messages, or are they not backed up so i won’t get them?
