Slow Mac Book Pro speeds up during encryption and decryption (fileVault)

I a have Mac Book Pro (13", mid 2012) that after awhile became so very slow. Actions now take around > 30 seconds to complete. The disk was encrypted (fileVault was on), but could not find that this was the reason because decryption did not have any affect.

However, DURING encryption and decryption, the speed returned to normal fast. When encryption and decryption was finished, the Mac Book Pro became slow again.

I managed to take backup after many retrials.

Installing/upgrade to latest OS X, or reinstalling from backup, did not work possibly due to the slow response.

Seems odd indeed—

To get a good look at your System config. for conflicts or issues, you can run this utility http://etrecheck.com

If you need help interpreting the report you can post it here in its entirety in the "Additional Text" box in the edit menu below.

To trouble shoot further you can:

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Hi

Thanks a lot for responding.

I did install EtreCheck, but this information is not easy available for me now. Only at the Time Machine back-up. At the moment I am not able to start up the machine because I have tried to install new OS that failed. This failed probably due to the slow response. Safe mode don´t seem to work either.

However, I AM able to boot up in verbose and single user mode. But there is no /Users folder available, only root user. Here the same slow response occur.

Is there functions that can be run from command - line that could indentify my problems?

best regards,

Stein Erik
