Dual monitor setup

How can I connect a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) to two monitors, that show different desktops? I'm looking to have the ability to work on word documents and Endnote on one monitor, and Nvivo and another program on the second monitor simultaneously.

The Air has two USB 3 ports and a thunderbolt 2 port.

The monitors are 4K and have both HDMI and DP ports.

There appears to be plenty of options to use USB-C adapters and I have tried one, but of course it will not connect to USB. I have also tried mini display to dual HDMI adapter but Alogic only supports Windows 7 and above, not OS.

Surely there is an option to connect this Air to two monitors.

I have the same model of the MacBook Air. And it only supports a single external monitor.

Ended up using a 4k HDMI adaptor and 4k HDMI cable. Because with a normal HDMI cable the external screen (mine is an LG with UHD resolution) I couldn't set the screen resolution higher than 1920x1080. Only with the 4k adapter and cable could I set the screen to its native 3840x2160.

2 screens would have worked if our Air's had 2 Thunderbolt ports.
