Catalina 32-bit applications - is there any way to run them?
I understand that MacOS Catalina will only support 64-bit applications. Mainly this doesn't matter, I've looked at my installation and it's mostly things like old Adobe applications that I'd like uninstalled anyway.
However, I've one very important application, the OED (Oxford English Dictionary) CDROM, that I use almost every day, and I've had for over a decade.
I don't know if the OUP is going to upgrade it to 64-bit - I've asked them and I'm waiting for a reply.
I know I can avoid upgrading to keep it running, but that's not really a good option.
Is there any way to run 32-bit applications on Catalina? Is anybody working on a 64-bit application that can load and run old 32-bit applications? Is there any sort of kludge possible to upgrade applications? Might it be possible to load them with a 64-bit wrapper?
What is the actual block? Is it just an OS check, or is it hard-wired in the dispatcher?
I'm sure other people will have this question, and I'm sure there'll be a market for something that enables the running of 32-bit apps. Maybe there's something on github already - if you know, please let me know!
I'd be grateful for any suggestions, including highly technical ones..
