I was wondering why sometimes when I press the side button on my iPhone Xs Max to shut down the home screen in order to place the iPhone in my pocket I hear a camera sound and I wind up with a screen shot that I have to delete?

Perhaps because, inadvertently, you are touching also the volume button (on the other side).
