Apple Pencil 1st Gen Not Pairing with Ipad Air 3

Hello,

I had purchased 2 Apple Pencils (1st Gen) via Amazon in December 13, 2016.

I used 1 pencil for my iPad Pro (1st Gen) and it worked perfectly.

I recently purchased an iPad Air 3 and tried to use the 2nd pencil purchased in 2016, but it is not pairing.

I researched online and found that many pencils were found defective.

Please advice on what to do.

Thank you

If I understand correctly, you purchased these pencils three years ago, is that right? If the pencil was unused for three years, the teen tiny Lion battery died long ago and there is no hope for it. The batteries in these pencils need to be charged continuously, or they die. Even if you had purchased this from Apple directly, the warranty was for one year from date of purchase. You can certainly ask Amazon as they are who you purchased the pencil from (even though back in 2016 Amazon was NOT an authorized reseller of Apple products), but after three years since purchase, I doubt even Amazon is going to refund the purchase.

Something you need to know about Apple Pencils.

If an Apple Pencil sits around unused and not kept charged up for more than a few weeks, or so, OR LONGER, then the battery in your Apple Pencil may have failed and is dead and you will have to purchase another brand new Apple Pencil.

Sorry.

And it looks like some things about the Apple Pencil have not changed in the new, “improved” version 2 model, either.

FYI and something Apple never divulges to it potential iPad Pro/Apple Pencil customers/users unless the potential customer/user is smart enough to ask about.

Due to the “always on and active/standby” nature of the Apple Pencil and, also, due to its very tiny rechargeable Li-ion battery (smaller than the eraser head on a REAL wooden pencil), the Apple Pencil needs to be constantly charged up to some significant charge level ALL THE TIME, even when not using the Pencil for prolonged periods of time.

The Apple Pencil needs to be kept charged to a minimum of 5-10% all the time.

If the Apple Pencil battery is allowed to drain down to 0% and allowed to stay in that flat condition for more than a few weeks, or so, OR EVEN LONGER, that very tiny little Li-ion battery is too small to keep at a 0% state for a long period of time and it will fail and the Apple Pencil will be dead and you may have to “pop” for another $99 Apple Pencil, once again!

You need to keep your Apple Pencil charged all the time, even if it is only to 10%-15% charge. It must keep some charge level in that tiny Lithium-ion battery at all times!

Even when the Apple Pencil is NOT being used for long periods of time, you must be vigilant and make sure the Apple Pencil ALWAYS has some significant battery charge level in it!

Best of Luck to You!
