Over the years I’ve tagged faces in the Photos app; I’ve created many typos and all of those mistakes still appear in the list. Is there anyway to clean up the list and remove those entries that are not needed?

The faces names are stored in the library. To clear the list of name suggestions you would have to create a new photos library and start over.

That’s too bad. Guess if I’m gonna do that I think I’ll move my 75k photos to Lightroom where I have more control over the databases that make up the library.
