My MacBook Pro fan has been running a lot lately. Checking activity monitor, nothing seems amiss except for this "multilateralto" or "multilateraldaemon" that's showing high CPU usage in the Activity Monitor. I've searched online for what this is, but not returning any results. Does anyone know what this process is? Quitting it doesn't seem to help as it just turns back on.
I concur with Grant Bennet-Alder that there is a good possibility that your Mac is "infected" with malware. I would suggest that you consider using Malwarebytes for Mac to see if it can detect any and remove them.

A search for that item yields nothing (very unusual).
You clipped off the most interesting column, "User" which would show whether this is initiated by root (or MacOS, and which part) or initiated by you, the User.
There is some malware that is know for inventing realistic but sometimes nonsensical names for itself.
I cut off the user info purposely to protect my username, but the multilateraltodaemon user is the "root" user.
