Printing samples of fonts on my mac

Is there a way to print a sample of all the fonts with a specific saying such as "This is a sample of a Font"

displayed on one line

OR

A list of each font in such a way that I can see what each font looks like

iPad Pro, iOS 12

Sure - use /Applictions/Font Book.app

It's already installed on your system.

It will show you all installed fonts and you can select any or all fonts and use File -> Print to print samples.

Edit: my bad - Font Book.app does let you enter a custom string to display, but it doesn't carry that string through the print process so it only meets one of your criteria. Back to the drawing board.

No. What you can do in Font Book (Dock : Launchpad : Other : Font Book) is to select multiple (using ⌘ key) major font families as you want sample print, and then choose File menu : Print… : PDF : Open in Preview — or Save to PDF. This will print the major family name, followed by sample print for each face of that family, and then it repeats this with the next selected font family, etc.

and after Print : PDF : Open in Preview. The following image has been reduced 30% for this post:

and the remainder was on a second page. Interesting enough, I also have a newer version of Bodoni Ornaments installed in my local font folder, that is off, it apparently printed it too. Wasn't expecting that duplicity.

I think the above approach is as good as it gets without installing third-party software, provided it exists for your goal.
