Safari not autofilling SOME passwords

Autofill passwords is selected.

Password exists in password list and is correct.

"Remember me" ticked wherever possible.

...but, for the last few weeks, for example;

Facebook won't auto login

Twitter not only won't auto login, but insists every login is from a new device, even if I sign in, sign out and immediately sign in again (each time not autofilling)

BBC sometimes, not others,

This website ok

Some financial institutions ok

Two frequently used forums, no issues at all.

Have restarted several times to no avail.

Anybody got any ideas, please? Thx

It reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things.

From the article below.

What is safe mode?

Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
