Forgot passcode

So my girlfriend forgot her password and I put the phone in recovery mode hooked up to iTunes so I can restore it but while it’s in the extracting software process my phone came out of recovery mode after about 15 minutes but the extracting software bar still seems to be making progress ... is this normal ? Or is it not going to restore because thee phone came out of recovery mode ? It’s just on the normal disable screen now but progress bar in iTunes still moving up slowly
