iPhone Maps without cellular

Can I use iPhone maps to chart a driving course and then turn off data and still use GPS to track my progress along the route? We're traveling to UK and were trying to avoid having an expensive cellular data package while traveling about.

Hello, BrentFromFredericksburg.

From what I've read, you want to know if you can use the GPS without cellular data. Let me help you out with this because I use maps a lot to help navigate unknown areas. When using Apple Maps, you'll have to route your destination before turning off any services. Also, keep in mind that in doing so this may affect the accuracy of your GPS along with turn by turn directions: Location Services & Privacy

I would also suggest taking a look through the App Store for maps that work by GPS only.

Cheers!

You could also purchase a standalone navigation app - one that downloads the maps themselves to your device and uses no data, cellular or WiFi, once installed. Apps from TomTom, Garmin and others work that way, and will even work fine when the device is in airplane mode.

If you only need City navigation, consider CityMaps2Go. With it, you just purchase and download the specific city maps you need, and then use them offline.
