Disk Utility can't partition external drive

Hallo

We connect an Samsung T5 with USB-C to an macmini 10.14.5

I was able to Format the drive as HFS+ Journaled. But I am not able repartition the Samsung 1Tb Volume os the Drive in smaller Partitions. The Partition Button will remain "grey"

The Partitiontable is not available

Is the a new feature ?!? :-(

I want to have the drive split in 1 pcs 500Gb and 2 pcs of 250Gb Volumes.

In the past I did this with thousands of drive. I can't image that Apple kill this option for an external drive ?!?

I resolve it by reformat the drive with the terminal command diskutil and then the partition button was Available in Disk Util? Is this a feature of 10.14 or a bug?

Any help

Gerard

Hello,

In Disk Utility be certain you are formatting the device not just a partition. To explain, by default newer versions of Disk Utility hide the storage device on the left-hand sidebar and just show the available mounted volumes.

In the upper left corner of Disk Utility tap on the square-ish button and it will reveal a menu. In that menu tap on “Show all devices”.
