Pause face recognition in Photos

Hello,

I've recently decided to move my entire photo library from Lightroom to Photos. I'm not a professional and I need only basic features. I really appreciate to have access to all my pictures from all my iDevices.

As my library is quite big (36'000 photos), it took a while but finally import has been achieved successfully.

So far so good.

But now it has started the face recognition. And on such a big library it takes a lot of time. Actually, it is processing since 1 week and it is still not achieved.

This process impacts the performance of my Mac. And Photos is almost not usable, it takes ages to edit a photo or simply delete it.

I don't want to disable this feature as it is a nice one. But is there a way to put it on pause when I want to work on my pictures?

Or is there a way to know how long it will take to achieve the scan the all the library ?

A big thanks for your help.

my Photos library has roughly 50000 photos and videos, and the initial scan took about two weeks.

There is no "Pause" for the faces scan. But it should only be running while you are not using Photos and it is in the background. If you start your Mac and then do not launch Photos, the scan should not start. Only after you launch Photos. If the scan is making your Mac slow, when you want to do other things, do not launch Photos at all, until you can afford to have it running. Let Photos run over night, while you are not using the Mac.
