I've reset my phone several times. I've cleaned the speaker/microphone and the volume is as loud as it can go. I can hear when the phone is on speaker, but not when I'm answering and hold the phone to my ear.

My sister faced the same problem on her XS and it was determined to be a hardware failure. If, after checking the suggestion by Joseph_S if it still does not work; make an appointment with the Genius Bar, authorized 3rd party repair, or your service provider. I have seen this issue come up on these forums over the last few days and there is a trend with this issue happening with XS Max users. I suspect a replacement is in your future.
