Hi,
Years ago when I set up my apple id, I somehow set my child's account as my apple id alias! I cannot remove it. My daughter has now grown and has a new apple id, so I want to remove this email address, but can't. Its just annoying. Any ideas?

Do you mean that your Apple ID is an @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com address? In that situation you can't change it. No-one else sees it, at least as the ID, so your beste beet is to put up with it. The only alternative is to create a completely new Apple ID and as you can't move iTunes purchases between accounts, nor email addresses, it's hardly worth it.
If you mean the iCloud address you created when you opened the account, you can't change that either: but you can set up additional addresses (not accounts) as 'email aliases' - please see:

Was it the case that your daughter's emails came to your account? If
your daughter's old address belonged to your account - for example as an
'email alias', and additional address on the account (i.e. with a
different text before the '@') - then you should be able to delete that
alias at Sign in to iCloud - Apple and presumably that would allow you delete it from the AppleID site.
You can't remove/change @iCloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com aliases. If the alias has a ? on the right side, you can't remove it. If it has an X on the right side, you can delete it.

Apple persist in calling the main iCloud address, or its @me.com or @mac.com versions where applicable, as 'aliases', which confuses everyone as this is distinct from 'email aliases' - the additional addresses. The OP can't mean the latter as they can't be used as an ID or login.
To clarify, you can't remove the address you created when you opened the account - @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com depending on when you did this - and you can't remove the other versions if you have them: for example if you started with an @me.com address you automatically got an @icloud.com address as well when iCloud opened, and this gets confusingly referred to as an alias.
An 'email alias' is an additional address which delivers into the inbox alongside the main address(es). These can be deleted, but not used as a login or to create a new ID. I wondered if it was one of these which you provided your daughter with. As Eric says, the '?' or 'X' indicate whether you can delete the address or not. These show on the iCloud website, not the Apple ID website.
Ok.. I'll try and give you all context... (and I think I am actually just stuck with it as is), If I go into manage my appleid... it has my correct email address listed as my appleid, then at "reachable at" it lists that email address, my iphone moble phone no. and then my daughter's old icloud address (she uses a new one now). If I click "edit" it then goes to a new screen that allows me to add more addresses that I am reachable at, but not remove any. If I hover above the question mark next to my daughter's email address it pops up "this is an alias of your Apple ID email address". IF I can't remove it without losing everything, then its fine, I'll just continue as is. I hope I've answered some of the questions above.
