I was able to connect my MacBook air 2015 and macbook pro 2015 with Dell P2717H as additional display using DP to Thunderbolt
I bought a new MACbook Pro 2018 version and thunderbolt to Usbc adapter(Apple). Wire is the same old one I used before.
I cant seem to connect display now.
It says going in power saver mode.
I also tried HDMI to
MacBook Pro Retina

USB-C is the name of the connector, ONLY.
If the adapter you bought is the Apple ThunderBolt-3 to ThunderBolt-2 adapter, it does not produce a usable display signal of any description.
To solve this problem, you need to connect form the computer output port to the display input port with at most ONE adapter. Apple does not sell a mini displayPort or [Full size] DisplayPort adapter.
