How much free storage is on your MacBook Air? You may need to free storage to be able to install the upgrade: How to upgrade to macOS Mojave - Apple Support
Your Mac also needs at least 2GB of memory and 12.5GB of available storage space, or up to 18.5GB of storage space when upgrading from OS X Yosemite or earlier.
Have a look at this, How to upgrade to macOS Mojave - Apple Support you will see in that your Mac should be able to upgrade to Mojave.
What error are you seeing, can you post a screenshot.
Come on then show us what About This Mac says, click the Apple top left of your screen and then click on About This Mac, please post a screenshot of what it shows, and can you also tell us how much free space you have on your Mac.
I can't go on holiday until you reply.
This is what it say
What does it say in About this Mac (Apple Menu) for the year, model, and OS you are currently running?
