Installing OS after erasing APFS

Hi, I just erased APFS on my MacBook Air and didn’t install OS before shutting down. When I restartedI get a flashing file folder. Is there any way I can install OS? I’m trying to wipe everything so I can send it in for a trade-in.

start up from Recovery mode then select Reinstall macOS.

I believe I got to the start up disk and erased the Macintosh HD with the format of APFS because that is what I saw was recommended. Another post claimed that formatting as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" is the recommended. I had already erased as the other format. Now my issue is when I go to reinstall Mac OS after erasing the hard drive an error pops up reading "Could not create a reboot volume for APFS install." Where do I go from here? Thanks in advance!

Reinstall OS on 2011 MacBook Air After erasing the SSD on a 2011 MacBook Air to reinstall the OS, the only alternative is to format the drive as APFS. Apparently this is because it had an APFS OS installed previously. However, when downloading the OS, it comes up as 10.7, Lion. Lion can't install on an APFS formatted drive. So I am in a Catch-22 situation. I'd appreciate any ideas on how to proceed. TIA.

Mac book air Mac OS Hard drive update I accidentally deleted my MacOS Mojave off my Mac book air I have a copy on a USB that I been trying in Reinstall on my Mac book air when I turn on my Mac book the macOS utility screen comes up I click on disk utilities I know that I am suppose to have Mojave I’m the internal section of the screen but it’s currently on the External part how do I re install what I have on my usb so I can get my laptop up and running new again i have nothing backed up in the time machine tab when click on the install MacOS Mojave it says this volume is not formatted as APFS how do I format it so I can install onto the Mac book I tried calling apple many times one one is answering or helping I hope someone can help me with this ; my son is trying to do his school work and it’s been such a hassle not having it working
