There are Apps in the App Store such as Speak for Amazon Alex.
What do you want Alexa to do? It is free standing, you speak to the speaker not your Mac and it sources music etc from whatever wireless network you have.
FWIW, you can use Alexa from a browser…
Not very Mac friendly however.
Couldn't get the video to work in the browser.
It is possible to setup Echo Dot using Mac desktop with help from Amazon.
Takes some effort to find the help agent
