Malwarebytes free anti-malware

Does Malwarebytes Free need to be updated? Why did it appear on my desktop?

Is it trustworthy and useful? I'm running High Sierra 10.13.6. Thank you.

The only apps that will have an update notification are apps you installed from the App Store.

Other apps may check for updates when you run them, and then let you know an update is available.

Things like MalwareBytes are installed from a download from the developer and are almost always on a disk image.

A disk image is a file that appears like a hard drive when opened.

You likely opened the disk image in your Downloads folder so it mounted the disk on your desktop.

Drag the mounted disk to the trash, or ctrl-click on the drive and choose Eject.

Thank you, K Shaffer.

A "Malwarebytes"-named storage icon, identical in form to a flash drive icon, is what appeared on my desktop, not the Malwarebytes icon itself. it would seem to be either fraud OR saying I need to update since I had first downloaded it to my Applications 4 years ago per the direct, in-person advice of an Apple Store Creative staff member who is very knowledgeable. But 3 months ago, I also downloaded, what I thought was an update. Unfortunately, I apparently didn't copy the notification that said I needed to download it again. Your reply makes me think that my computer should have announced an App needs updating--as it does, say, for Pixelmator or Letterpress or actual Apple products. That has not happened; I think I need to call AppleCare. I have another, very irksome, recent but constant problem that I must address as well.

Thank you, Sir.

The initial download (does not automatically appear) from Malwarebytes site has trial section

that offers features that later go offline; while the main function continues. And you may get

later version of the basic Malwarebytes though the update channel; and not buy anything.

I have both Malwarebytes and also Etrecheck; both from their original makers-sites. Each has

purpose and overlaps a bit. The second one allows you to make report & upload to your ASC

discussion to share, and get ideas. ~ These both can be useful to remove some bad-ware.
