Hello,

At this time there is no way to open multiple documents simultaneously. Apple has announced that with iPadOS 13, coming this fall, users will be able to open multiple instances of applications meaning you will be able to open as many documents simultaneously as you wish.

In the meantime a workaround would be to use Apple’s Pages and Microsoft Word in split screen multitasking.
