Which USB port for Flash Drive?

I have a 2012 version MacBook Air. I want to plug in a SanDisk USB 3.1 256GB Flash Drive for storage. There are 2 posts- one on each side. Which do I use? Or does it matter?

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14
