Hello,

iPad’s system software contains an algorithm that determines when you charge your device and it uses this information to intelligently charge its battery. The type of batteries that inside of Apple’s devices can become damaged if they sit at 100% for an extended amount of time so Apple’s software will charge the battery to about 97% to help increase the life of the battery. If you’re within the time iPad thinks that you usually don’t charge your battery then it will keep the device at around 97%.

If you believe there is an error with your iPad’s battery head into Settings -> Battery and iPad will display your battery life/usage. If you are still maintaining about 10 hours of moderate usage of your iPad then your battery is okay. If you are experiencing much lower usage hours then I would suggest contacting AppleCare for assistance. At this time there is no known problems with the iPad Pro 2017.
