Ipad screen too dim and can’t hardly see it

Just got a new last year model of IPad and from initial startup, the screen is so dark you can’t see anything. You’d think the machine is off. With a high powered light shining strategically you can make out certain buttons. Enough to navigate through settings and brightness and other items like color invert and automatic light sensitivity sliders. You can change the sliders up and down and the screen remain the same darkness. What can I do or is it a faulty unit?

Sounds like a faulty unit with a faulty backlight.

If new, return it for another new unit as Apple gives you a 14-day return policy for any reason.
