*.lnk files is nothing but link to *.exe files. Also you can check size of *.lnk file, it won't be more than 1 KB. Usually programs are more than 1 KB.


Now, about using Windows software on macOS. By default, it is impossible due to a lot of factors. I won't explain what factors, I guess it would be too complicated for you.


But there is a straightforward solution for you that will provide you possibility to run Windows programs on macOS — using a virtual machine, such as Parallels (the best compatibility with Windows), VirtualBox (free but geeky), VMWare (usually used by enterprises).
