I received a phone call saying that my apple account has been compromised. How do I know if it really has been compromised? If it is compromised what do I do next?

Scam/phishing. Apple won't call you unless you called them and requested a call back.

Avoid phishing emails, fake ‘virus‘ alerts, phony support calls, and other scams
