Stuck on a Black Screen if the Mac goes into sleep mode while screen is open

When my Mac goes into sleep mode while the computer screen is still open, when waking, it is stuck on a black screen and I am not able to get out of it. I have to restart the computer every time this happens and it is a little frustrating to loose the work I was perviously working on. This issue doesn't happen if the Mac goes into sleep mode then the screen is closed. I have tried some solutions I found online, including creating a sticky key, but was unable to create sticky keys.

This didn't use to happen the first maybe 2 years after I bought the new Mac so I am not sure why it started as well. Has anyone experienced this and have a solution for this problem? thanks

Hello,

Here are a few things you can try next:

Apple Hardware Test

Reset SMC

Reset PRAM

I tried this and updated to Mojave. Now, instead of getting stuck on the black screen, it gets stuck on the login screen. When I click on the entry bar to start typing the password in, the computer gets stuck, around 10-15 seconds later the screen turns black and the loading symbol appears, another 10 seconds later the login screen comes back up and this goes in a cycle until I just shutdown and restart it.
