AppleCare+ coverage for Apple Pencil

I recently purchased an iPad Air, then added AppleCare+ coverage several days later. The email about AppleCare+ that prompted me to buy the coverage indicated that my Apple Pencil would also be covered by the plan. However, I cannot see verification of this on my AppleCare+ plan.

How do I make sure that my Apple Pencil is covered by my AppleCare+ plan? Is coverage under AppleCare+ unavailable for an Apple Pencil purchased through a third party?

An accessory will not be listed but it will be covered if it was purchased at the same time as the iPad Pro. See “Apple Hardware Coverage” at the AppleCare+ for iPad web page.
