Hello jmsfmtex,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about your portable charger. Without info about the portable charging device, it's hard to say for sure. Here is some info to help you verify if it's safe to use with your device.

1. This article has info about the USB Power Adaptors: About Apple USB Power Adapters - Apple Support

2. You can use other USB power adaptors as well. While your device isn't compatible with fast charging, you can still use these power adaptors. This article talks about this: Charge your iPhone with an iPad or Mac notebook power adapter - Apple Support

"You can use Apple USB power adapters for iPad and Mac notebooks to charge iPhone, iPod, Apple Watch, AirPods, and other Apple products."

3. Generally, if they are certified to work with our devices, they will be marked as so. Please review this article for helpful information: Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories - Apple Support

4. If you have trouble charging, the following article may help you isolate the issue: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't charge - Apple Support

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
