Opening Powerpoints

Suddenly when I download powerpoints and try to open them, the notification comes up saying 'Additional permission is required to open the following files', and when I grant access it says 'Powerpoint cannot read ^0'. I have always been able to open powerpoint until today. I have a MacBook Air. Thank you!

First, find out if a security password has been set for this file, if it has, it will not open without one.
