UK Macbook Pro 2015 logic board repair

Hi, I have a really well looked after 2015 MacBook Pro. A couple of weeks ago, the logic board died (diagnosed by the Geniuus Bar in Kingston). In the age of saving the planet and all that, I don't want to send it to the knackers yard just yet if i can avoid it and would rather get it repaired and give it to my son. The repair through Apple is just not economical at over £500. Does anyone know of anywhere that diagnoses and repairs logic boards at a reasonable rate? I have the logic board out of the laptop and ready to be sent off.

Thanks in advance of responses.

Thanks for that. I saw that, and to be honest, the cost of the replacement logic board, I may as well buy a 2nd hand laptop (£300 for the logic board, £400 for a macbook). Again this calls in to question, the viability of the repair vs getting another laptop. I know this is partly economics. But, if someone is selling these on eBay, this means there's someone out there repairing them and selling them at £300 for a profit. So the question really is about a repair rather than buying a replacement board and running the risk of receiving a board, that's been replaced in the past, and has either further faults OR is DOA.

Hope that makes sense.

I do not know if this option is available outside the US but Apple has a "depot repair" option here. Instead in fixing the computer in the store in 1-2 days, they send it to a central Apple refurbishment facility where a fixed-price (with limits) repair is done and everything they find wrong is corrected, including logic boards. If the case and display are not damaged, the fee is about half what you were quoted for just the logic board. The only downside based on reports here is that the repair takes longer, usually 5-7 working days plus shipping.

Ask your Apple Store if the depot option if available there.

I know where to find them, but in general you’re dealing with parts salvaged from computers where something else didn’t work and the computer was sold for parts. Only Apple and AASPs have access to new or factory refurbished logic boards if that’s important to you.

Diagnosing a logic board and replacing the parts is a different level of repair than just swapping out the board. I’m sure some people do it, but the quality of the work may vary depending on who does it. There are a few famous (some say infamous) repair advocates out there. I won’t name any, but if you really want to try you can look on the internet.
