After creating a text edit file, when I click save it gives me some limited choices. If I want to save it to an existing folder within my documents folder the only way I can do it is to save it to my desktop and then drag it to the location I want in the finder. The choices available when I click save in Text Edit are limited. Is there a way to save a text edit file to a specific folder? Thanks.

By default TextEdit shows the short save dialog. Just expand the options to get the full experience:
Duh! To quote an old film "There are none so blind as those who will not see." It was right in front of my eyes and I didn't notice the drop down arrow. I've used it before in other programs to save items but just didn't see it here. Thanks, and myapologies for my stupidity.
