Sync between iPhone MacBook

How do I sync photo's and messages between my iPhone and my Mac BooK? It suddenly stopped when my iPhone was replaced.

Can I download my photos, contacts, phone logs from my apple iphone to another type of smartphone? Previous iphone user. Purchased a new smartphone (not iphone). Iphone photos saved to icloud. Would like to have saved photos transferred/downloaded to my new smartphone. Device is NOT "LG".
