Apple TV 4k and TCL 55S425 55 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV (2019)

I'm having an issue getting the Apple TV and TCL Roku TV to talk . My 5 year old Samsung TV will adjust volume via the Apple TV remote, and turn off when I tell the Apple TV to go to sleep - none of that works with the Roku TV. TCL support is horrible. Anyone having success with these TVs?

Apple TV remote can/can’t control volume on TV? I can control my Sony TV’s speaker volume with the physical Apple TV remote, but not with my iPhone Control Center virtual remote. Why not? If the Apple TV is telling the Sony TV via HDMI to raise the volume, then it shouldn’t matter which remote I’m using to control the Apple TV, right?
