More information is required, a lot more. What will not update?

I don't know if you are in the same situation but...

I have an iMac mid 2011with an i7 chip and experienced the same thing.

Turns out that model will not upgrade to Mohave. The highest level it can use is High Sierra.

Would require an upgrade to hardware. I bought a new iMac 2019.

Apple tells me that they will keep sending out updates for High Sierra, but some of my applications will not run on High Sierra.

Planned obsolescence.

well not update to 10.14.
