How do I get stop payments and end subscriptions on apps I didn’t want or didn’t use so I can upgrade apps and install new ones

What is the text of the message/prompt that you are getting ? When you have a card on an account it has to be a valid card and pass the iTunes validation, that applies to all store downloads.

I’ve done that. It still wants me to update my payment method before I can download anything. But I don’t have a card to apply and I don’t want it charging for something I didn’t use
