My Apple Watch will no longer charge. Last time I used it, it was perfectly fine. Now when I charge it the Apple Watch flashes on and off. When I hold the buttons down it just tells me to go to apple.com/help/Watch which was no use. Do I have to replace the battery? It’s an older series but not the very first one.

Could be that you need a new battery, First check your charging cord to see if it is broken. Next make sure the watch and charger are making a good contact. Then make sure you have the iPhone and watch updated with the latest software updates. I’ve also used two different charges in two different outlets. So it’s not the charger being weird.
