How to reduce the menu bar showing delay?

I have my menu bar set to auto hide, that works fine. When I want to see it I push my cursor to the top of the screen but there is a pause before it shows. I understand that this is to prevent accidentally showing the bar but the pause is too long and quickly becomes irritating. It make the OS feel really slow. Can I change the delay time?
